【ここがポイントだ】

ここで注意したいのは、名詞でも複数にならない名詞があることです。たとえば、water(水), juice(ジュース), milk(牛乳), beef(牛肉), pork(豚肉)、chicken(鶏肉)といった名詞は、ひとまとまりの個性を持たないもので，どこを切っても元のままといったものです。そこでこれらの名詞は原則としてthisやthatと結びつきますが、theseやthoseとは結びつきません。

How is this beef? この牛肉の味はどうなの?	×How are these beef?

一方逆に、shoes(靴)、pajamas(パジャマ)、pants(パンツ)、glasses(メガネ)など、一対のものといったイメージから、基本的に複数で表されるものもあります。
